Challenge
Interested in how things work and always up for a creative challenge? Put that interest to work to win an iPod Touch -- and have fun while you’re at it. Take a page from Purdue’s Rube Goldberg competition to design and manufacture your own incredibly ridiculous machine that dispenses a “normal” amount of hand sanitizer. Record your machine in action, and tell us what interests you most about advanced manufacturing and/or logistics (AML). In short, show us why you deserve to win.
4 Steps To Winning
- Create your video. Videos must include machine details and reason(s) why you should win.
- Upload video to YouTube
- Submit an Entry Form
- Promote your video to all your friends so you can get the most views.
The video with the most views as of March. 1, 2012 will win a 32GB iPod Touch. The second place prize is a $100 iTunes gift card, and third place is a $50 iTunes gift card. In addition, all three winners will have their videos aired on the Dream It. Do It. Indiana website.

- No live animals may be used in the machine.

- Any loose or flying objects must remain within the set boundaries of the machine. This includes, but is not limited to, drops of water, slivers of balloon, and other “small” objects. Steam and other gasses are exempt from this rule.
- The machine may utilize one (1) air compressor hose and one (1) power cord. No other cords may be run to or from the machine; however there is no limit to the number of hoses and cords utilized within the space of the machine.
- No flames or electrical arching may be used on or within the machine.
- No hazardous materials or explosives can be used on or within the machine.
Where to begin? - Look in the garage and your old toy chest for inspiration—and raw materials!
- Don’t forget that everyday objects like rubber bands and balloons could have a place in your machine.
- Simple machines are the building blocks of everyday mechanization. Consider inclined planes, pulleys, screws, wedges, levers, and wheels/axles to get you started.
- Don’t be stopped by the outrageous! Integrate your outlandish ideas to make your machine more fun to watch.
